That's What Faith Must Be: Fall Break Campout 2

These are the first of many pics of all the fun we had on fall break. We camped out at Nee Nie and Papa's. And over the week of break we had many fun educational adventures.
These pics are in random order because blogger would NOT cooperate! Nee Nie and Papa's house is right in the heart of IN Amish country so there is a wonderful assortment of adventures to be had. The first picture is taken at an Amish or Mennonite run business in Shipshewana. The basket was a trip for the girls it was so big against them. They loved the log cabins that were on site and definitely think we should be the owners of one. :)

On another day we went to the oldest running BonnievilleMills Grist Mill in IN it was established in 1832 and still produces today. It is located in a state park and the grounds were beautiful. We went on a picnic after we toured a cold cider mill, cheese factory and a Mennonite bakery. Our picnic consisted of the bread, cheese, kettle chips, and fresh cider we got at each stop. It was a full day of exploring and learning how some of our favorite foods are made. While at the park we were disappointed to learn the mill was closed on that particular day. But after the picnic the girls went on a nature treasure hunt of sorts. All the trees were labeled and the girls stumbled upon apple trees laden with apples and pear trees with pears. They also found this beautiful Dahlia garden. I could not resist snapping some pics.

Even though the mill was not operational that day. We were still able to show the girls how the mill worked.

They had fun climbing on the millstone.

The BonnievilleMills was closed but we were able to go and explore the mill. The girls could not get over how big it all was. They were able to go under the hopper for the trucks to dump the grain into. And see all the powder that was still in the air and on everything. Then we went down to see the water flows under the mill and explain how it all works to make flour for bread. Hopefully one day we can return on a day they are open so the girls can see it all in action.

We first went to our favorite cheese factory. The girls got to learn how they make cheese and of course their favorite part as well as ours, was getting to sample all the cheese.

We got there just in time to see them making some cheddar cheese.

Here we are having our first cookout of the trip, hot dogs...check, Hershey candy bars....check, marshmallows....check, graham crackers......check, oh and of course pop corn and cheese a la Nee Nie!
